Locals Surprise New Neighbor by Showing Up to House Warming Party with Space Heaters and Firewood

BETHEL, ME — Bill Trainor, a business man from Massachusetts who recently relocated to Bethel, Maine, was at a loss for words when his new neighbors showed up to his house warming party with space heaters and firewood.  “I thought it was a joke at first, but it didn’t take long to figure out that they were serious…dead serious,” said Trainor. 

Apparently, Trainor’s neighbors were unfamiliar with phrase “house warming” and assumed that his new home wasn’t equipped to handle the long, cold Maine winters.  One of the party attendees, John Keller, said, “when I received the invitation in the mail, I thought this poor guy…things must be pretty bad if he’s asking people he doesn’t know for help…you can imagine my surprise when I walked into the house and saw the wood stove fired up and tons of food to eat…I thought I was at the wrong address.”

Trainor said that, initially, he accepted the gifts because he thought it was a local tradition.  “For all I knew it was some kind of rural gesture.  I grew up in Boston, so, I was expecting some people might bring wine…or a potted plant maybe…but space heaters?  Firewood?  One guy told me he was going to help me re-insulate my house…I was dumbfounded.”

Trainor told Ninja Satire that once everyone realized the extent of the communication breakdown the whole room erupted into uncontrollable laughter.  “We had a great time,” said Trainor, “they’re really great neighbors…and I’ve got the firewood to prove it!”
